A new start

2016

I'm not much of one for New Year's resolutions. I think if there's something in your life you want to change, just do it. Without sounding too cliched, I believe each day can be a fresh start, and so I don't think there's any need to wait until January 1 to enact any changes in your life.

However, at a recent family gathering, someone brought up my old fashion blog. I never really got into fashion blogging, and I was often tormenting by several male friends for its existence, so Girl Meets Glam faded away rather quickly. BUT-- I am starting again. Girl Meets Glam is not making an epic comeback, but I am going to start writing again. Although I still love the fashion and beauty world as much as I did three years ago, I want to use this self-named blog not to show outfits of the day, but as a way to write out my thoughts. (I did decide to leave the old posts because they make me laugh and reminisce about when I was fifteen.)

So, welcome to a new beginning in my blogging endeavors. I hope you find it, if not interesting, at least relatable (and not too angsty).

Burgundy

I absolutely love this sweater for cold days. Since it's longer, I like to pair it with skinny jeans.
I'm also obsessed with this butterfly clip. I think it's so unique and beautiful! The camera does not do it justice; it's so sparkly and pretty in the right light! I like to pair it with as many different outfits as possible.

Rainy Days

I'm back! It's been a long time, I know. I hoping to do more frequent posts now, but I've had trouble with my busy schedule.

Anyway, January has been a mix of weird weather: freezing cold and snowy to 60 degrees and rainy.
A few days ago was one of those rainy days; it was unseasonably warm and wet. The bright side is I was able to justify wearing my butterfly rain boots! I also wore an ear cuff I bought at Claire's for the first time. It's an easy way to spice up your everyday jewelry without getting another piercing. I think they're adorable and so easy to use!

fashion-forward

I've got pretty amazing friends. We're all so good looking too.

Jonathan, Ennely, me, Susan, & Sam

My blog is definitely more fashionable than yours. I found this perfectly-fitting shirt at TJ Maxx for $8. How awesome is that. (ignore the weird facial expressions. I'm not much of a model.)

Ennely Medina is one of the most stylish girls I know. She looked amazing today, and she made the blog for it. The suspenders add a funky twist that I adore.

boho

I know it's been awhile, but I've gathered a lot of great ideas for new posts, so you'll be seeing new stuff soon!

The other day I was looking in my closet and was inspired by a transitional dress/skirt that I had never worn very much. It reminded me, when worn as a floor-grazing skirt, of the maxi skirts that have been gracing the runway all season.

To get this easy, loose style, gather your hair into a half-ponytail and secure with a hair band. Then take your fingers and split a hole in the middle, above the band. Take the tail of your hair and bring it through the hole. Tighten or loosen depending on the look you're going for.

scrubs

I've decided to share with you two of the simplest recipes out there - one for silky skin and another for smooth, soft lips.

BODY SCRUB:
  • 2 - 4 tbsp of baking soda
  • a few drops of essential oil
Orange oil is my favorite oil to use in this recipe, but I also use lavender, peppermint, lemon, or any other essential oils that I can find.
I promise you, this scrub is amazing. Plus, it's all natural.

LIP SCRUB:
  • granulated sugar
  • honey OR eye cream OR hand lotion
I don't have exact measurements here; it's more up to you, use however much you think you need. Then just scoop some up with your finger and rub it across your lips. The sugar buffs away all the dry skin.
Enjoy your lusciously smooth skin! Leave a comment if you discover a favorite oil you like to use in your body scrub.

1960s inspiration

The other day, I was hit with sudden inspiration when I saw this picture:

Leah Antas wears a Forever 21 dress. Photo taken for her modeling portfolio in Lincoln Park.

This picture of Leah seriously looks like it came right out of a Vogue spread. I love it.
And, when I saw this picture, I immediately thought: 1960s. Twiggy. Jean Shrimpton. Audrey Hepburn. Vintage.
